This is a quality heater, I have a 3 person home with 2 stories. My old 80 gallon gas water heater did okay, but not as well as this unit. To make it even better, I am able to get a rebate and a most likely a tax deduction too. I have no idea why competitors are so much higher, when I compared the specs, other brands are nearly a thousand dollars more for the same abilities. This unit was easy to install, with one exception, the vent. While yes it is stated in the somewhat poor documentation that you need special ventilation it is something you could and I did miss until the install which delayed my install by hours but well worth the extra effort. Other than this one detail it is great. Time will tell on the longevity but from what I have seen that should be no problem. I only wish the controls were Analog rather than Digital as this can add a potential future problem, but then again, it may not after all everything is going digital. The unit is nice looking, small, easy to mount, and it itself runs cool and puts out plenty of hot water within seconds. It keeps up with washing clothes, a dishwasher and a bath all at the same time, BRAVO. The necessity for a special ducting is two fold, the intake for the burner is encased within the double wall vent on the outer side, this serves two purposes. Firstly it keeps the temperature of the duct cool on the outside. Secondly it brings in the combustion air from the outside. While this is a good design in general it is overkill, but if this speaks to the overall quality then this should prove to be a superior unit as this is a very thoughtful and superior design. The only issue is it is a tad noisy as the fan is quite powerful but since there is an associated noise factor of either a shower or appliance so what.
This is a great water heater. We purchased it for our new cabin after failures with 2 previous outdoor units. This is a indoor unit, easy to install and operate. The only problem was installing the vent pipe, which required drilling a hole through the wall. This unit provides all the hot water we need for showers, baths, and laundry. It will put out 145 degree water connected to a 20lb propane tank, although we set the water temp to 130 degrees. It does have freeze protection as long as it is connected to propane and electricity.
I had mine for a year and half now and love it! Works flawlessly, provides constant hot water for the shower. The life-saving part about this unit is the freeze protection where it will automatically turn on if the unit starts to freeze!!! I lost my old tankless water heater because my basement was too cold during a below zero winter night. My unite FROZE and burst pipe inside! The Aquah 3.7 gpm unit with the freeze protection feature is a MONEY & LIFE SAVER!
